Andrew is extremely good at keeping me engaged in my lessons, which is difficult to do – hats off to him – when it is a two hour lesson and it is easy to lose focus. He has a very unique and effective teaching method which is very interactive as he takes me through various concepts. He is kind and good humoured, which creates a comfortable environment to work in. I have come on a lot in A level chemistry since beginning tutoring sessions with Andrew. During lessons he ensures I understand everything in a number of ways including lots of helpful analogies. A PhD-qualified professional tutor is a rarity among thousands and thousands of tutors available for all subjects and levels. The advantage of this combination of qualifications and dedication should be obvious. Some highly qualified people offer tutorials besides their full-time occupation, but their career always comes first and the tutee second. That is undoubtedly not the case with Dr. Lawson. His career is tutoring, and he does it with passion and professionalism. To that end, he employs his vast knowledge and experience. However, his resume alone cannot capture the quality and effectiveness of his teaching, and we are trying to provide additional information by sharing our own experiences with Dr. Lawson. Our children had taken advanced classes in mathematics, and they were doing well in a typical school setting where students learn some topics, solve sample problems, and then take a test. However, we couldn’t get them to use what they had just learned and mastered in a new context outside the confines of the chapter or unit. That motivated us to search for somebody who could ignite and develop our children’s fluid reasoning. We found Dr. Lawson’s profile online and contacted him, hoping he could make a difference. And what a difference he has made. As soon as he started, we noticed that he explained concepts by asking questions, thus forcing the student to think. Initially, the children found this method challenging because nobody had attempted to teach them through active learning. But, crucially important, Dr. Lawson combined his active-learning approach with a finely tuned amount of challenge into a solution that dissolved our children’s shell of intellectual inhibition, and much more meaningful academic results followed soon. For instance, we noticed that our children could, for the first time, connect skills learned in different units, so they successfully handled multiple unit reviews and tests. Furthermore, they got better and better at solving problems without necessarily having the required knowledge. That was when I knew that we were absolutely on the right track: our children were developing critical thinking skills. Until recently, when faced with a more difficult question outside of classroom topics, they would freeze and then run to their Oracle of Delphi – Google – to search for the answer. Now they analyze the question or the problem. Then they genuinely work on it: • Reduce it to a simpler one. • Eliminate extraneous information in that problem. • Decompose it and find the answers to the smaller parts first. • Ask what one would need to know to be able to compute or figure out the solution to that part, etcetera. One could argue that there could be many contributing factors to this progress. Still, as a very observant parent, I know that Dr. Lawson has contributed most significantly to my children’s intellectual progress. And we are not the only ones noticing that they improved dramatically. For instance, our son won gold at US Science Olympiad at his event at the state level. Also, his science teacher repeatedly praised him for his ability to make abstract connections between concepts and recognize a known idea when presented in a novel way. Regarding mathematics, our son consistently scored the highest in his new school and has been ranked the best student in his year. He is attending a highly rated independent school with about one hundred students in his year. His math teacher used the phrase “head and shoulders above the others” when describing my son’s mathematics performance. Similarly, our daughter excels in math, physics, and chemistry consistently. As one can easily imagine, we cannot be more pleased with Dr. Lawson’s teaching. He is the best tutor one could wish for, regardless of the student’s current level. Dr. Lawson will adjust the challenge level just enough so that the pupil works hard without being overwhelmed and makes the step forward. Sometimes the progress is slower and sometimes faster, but the student moves forward, and the cumulative result is terrific. Like always, there is no miracle, but you can be sure that Dr. Lawson will teach your child to think, ask relevant questions, give adequate answers, or recognize when there is no answer to a problem. Our experience has proven that this is possible.
We are very very happy to have found Dr Andrew. He is teaching our daughter chemistry. She is enjoying his lessons and she learns a lot. In the first few sessions, she already has learned from him more than she learned the whole of her last academic year, in her regular chemistry class. Dr Andrew comes up with good life examples and applications of what he is teaching, making the subject interesting even for us the parents. The lessons are taking place online since we live in the US, so we, the parents, can enjoy seeing our daughter immersed into the lesson. We highly recommend him.
I have just started my Chemistry A-Level – a subject which is known to get very difficult. I had one tuition lesson where Andrew travelled to my house and it was a great, productive lesson and I saw that, already, Andrew was making a difference with my understanding – I was so happy to have found an amazing tutor like Andrew. Due to health issues, he’s not able to do face-to-face tuition so he suggested trying out online tuition for a short period of time. I wasn’t very keen on the idea as I doubted how effective it would be but I did try it out and it is pretty life-changing!! The app, via pc, that is used is so good and so easy to use (literally click a link – you don’t even have to sign up). I can email Andrew the questions/ topic I want to do for the hour and he imports it onto the screen so it is in front of us both with a piece of digital paper where we can both write and point along with some other cool features & you can even save the slides afterwards for extra revision. It really is amazing and so flexible too as we can have random, last minute lessons, for instance, if I’m struggling with some questions – he is literally just a link away! Most of our lessons have also gone over the time, Andrew never ends the lesson if I still have any doubt with the topic we are working on and he has a way of making difficult concepts seem so much easier!!! I feel so much more confident now because of Andrew than I did when I first started the course…Couldn’t recommend him as a tutor enough and please do try out online lessons, they make your life so much easier – I don’t think I’ll ever want to go back to face-to-face tuition!!!😂;; & with Andrew’s help over the next 2 years, I believe I’m going to do very well as I have already scored well in some mini-tests we have done in class which he helped me to prepare for! 🙂
Cameron has had three A level Chemistry lessons with Andrew so far. Cameron commented that he thinks that Andrew is the best teacher he has ever had! Cameron feels that Andrew explains the subject in a way that he fully understands what he is being taught and therefore retains the information. Dr Lawson is an EXCELLENT teacher. Our daughter is taking A-level physics and he has been an enormous help. Before we settled on a physics tutor, we tried free sessions with several of them and had our daughter pick which one she preferred. There were several great tutors but our daughter said, “these other tutors are good but Andrew really stretches me. He doesn’t merely clear explain the material and go through past papers with me. He asks challenging questions that force me to think and REALLY understand the concepts and how to apply them to solve problems.” Andrew is also very flexible with the inevitable scheduling issues that arise in the lives of high school students. He was always reasonable and fair in making scheduling accommodations, even when something came up last minute and we had to cancel or postpone our session. This makes working with him much more pleasant than working with tutors who are inflexible with scheduling problems.

My son has had Andrew teaching him twice a week for the last 6 weeks. My son is one of the cohort of students that didn`t sit his Alevels in 2020. Mid August results came out and it was apparent that he would need to sit the Chemistry exam 5 weeks later. This has been an overwhelming task for a student who was not able to finish the syllabus prior to lockdown and has not worked for the preceding 6 months. We luckily managed to secure the help of Andrew. Andrew has been supportive and encouraging but has also challenged my son, to help him with his understanding. They have had to work at speed and there have been a few wobbles but Andrew has been able to gently nudge my son in the right direction. My son has worked tremendously hard over the last 5 weeks and I have no doubt that it is in part due to having Andrew as his tutor that he hasn`t just given up.

Due to Covid-19 exams had been cancelled; my school teachers generously gave me grade C’s for both Maths and Physics A-Levels. I reluctantly went to university in September 2020 to realise I hated the route I was taking. In October I decided I really needed to re-take my A-Levels, in order to get to where I want to be, so started searching for an online tutor. My previous experience with private tutors had not been successful so I was determined to find the best tutor, one that was actually passionate about the subject, and not just doing it for the extra money. That’s when I found Andrew. He replied to my message the same day assuring that he will help me no matter how the pandemic turned out which gave me great confidence. I have been having lessons 2/3 times a week for 6 months and can say that I will hopefully be achieving an A/A* in Maths and Physics. I doubt I would have been able to achieve near these grades without the support from Andrew. He is very well organised and has an incredible work ethic; the most genuine teacher I have ever had, always pushing me to be better at the same time as making jokes to make lessons fun. Andrew taught me for five years, throughout iGCSE and ALevel. With his assistance, I obtained eleven 9s (iGCSE), four A*s (A Level) and a place at Cambridge for physical natural sciences. When our son was preparing for his GCSEs, he started having Physics tuition with Dr Lawson.
